Narus: Big Brother's Little Helper Here is an amazing breakdown, via the Daily Kos, of technology sold by Narus, whose gear is used by AT&T to help the NSA spy on Americans. One Narus box can apparently monitor 39,000 DSL connections.
According to Narus's products page, their technology can monitor, in realtime, the following protocals (and more): * VoIP (SIP, H.323, MGCP) * Skype * Streaming media (RTP, RTCP, RTSP) * Peer-to-peer (Gnutella, BitTorrent, KaZaa, eDonkey, etc.) * Web browsing * e-Mail (SMTP, POP3, IMAP) * Messaging (IM, MMS) * Push to talk These Narus boxes are apparently widely deployed by AT&T, and likely all other major carriers. As the Daily Kos article points out: "It's the biggest invasion of privacy in history by several orders of magnitude." |
