WonderWash: Non-Electric Laundry Machine At FrogStyle we are interested in the future. There are a lot of things you can't depend on, but the future will come. You can either try to stroke its leathery skin or kick it in its gnarled hands, but there is no ignoring it. The Laundry Alternative Incorporated is undoubtedly a company that shares this philosophy. They make a number of interesting washing and drying machines, including a unit called the WonderWash!
When I stumbled upon the WonderWash I was intrigued. Here is a device that uses no electricity and can do laundry faster than a conventional washing machine. Right now you are thinking "How does it work?" It is time for me to tell you. The WonderWash uses a patented pressure system to force water and detergent into the fabric of your washable items. Because of this it uses 90% less water than regular washing machines. In addition to these advantages, the WonderWash is also portable so you can take it camping. It is made of rugged plastic and one stainless steel component, so you can throw it around or leave it in the rain. The only apparent drawbacks to using the WonderWash, in comparison to a conventional machine, is a lower capacity and the requirement of some labor to operate it. During the wash you have to crank the handle for 2-3 minutes. In addition, you have to manually perform the wash/rinse cycle (after washing you drain the soapy water then fill the unit with clean water for the rinse). One thing that would be handy for this beast would be an electric add-on that would automate the cranking. This would require some electricity, if course, but would be a good thing if you're feeling lazy, yet don't want to marinate in your natural smells. Product info here. A review of the unit here.
